DOXYCYCLINE is a tetracycline group antibiotics which available in the market as syrup, Tablet, capsule & injection form.
DOXYCYCLINE is a broad- spectrum tetracycline class antibiotics used in the treatment of infections caused by bacteria & certain parasites.
USE:-
Treat bacterial infection - pneumonia,acne, Chlamydia infection, Lyme disease, typhus, cholera, syphilis.
It is also used to prevent malaria in combination with quinine.
HALF-LIFE:- 16 to 22 hours.
FORMULA:- C²²H²⁴N²O⁸
SIDE EFFECTS:- Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, risk of sunburn.
INTERACTION:- Dairy , Antacid, calcium supplements, iron products.
HOW IT WORKS:-
work by killing bacteria by stopping them from making the proteins that they need to survive starts working in as little as 2 hours after taking it. But depending on the infection you have it may take upto 24 to 48 hours to start seeing it's effect.
****IMPORTANT NOTES::--
- During pregnancy & lactating mothers not recommended this medicine
- Avoid dairy products for at least two hours before & after your dose.
- Doxycycline can interfere with penicillin antibiotics less effective.
- Alternatives of doxycycline:- minocycline, Azithromycin, Erythromycin.
